2.2. Type of Study
There are various types of online studies to choose from depending on the goals of the project, as well as your budget and timeline. While this is not an exhaustive list of the types of online studies, we think they provide a useful framework.
Comprehensive usability or user experience study
Like with traditional usability testing in a lab, you'll often want to just take the “usability temperature” of a site and see how it comes out. Perhaps this is because you want to identify whether it needs improvements (it usually does!) or you don't know where to begin with improvements. In either case, it's helpful to do a broad sweep of the site, with tasks touching various aspects of the design.
