Chapter 9

NoSQL Data Management for Big Data

In this chapter we look at a variety of alternative methods of data management methods that are being adopted for big data application development. We discuss the concepts of NoSQL – “Not Only SQL” – and describe schema-less models for data manipulation. We look at a number of NoSQL paradigms: the key-value store, document stores, tabular stores, object data stores, and graph databases. The discussion contrasts the use of the traditional relational data model with these different alternatives, and shares thoughts about the suitability of these alternative data management approaches to a big data environment
