A successful launch only puts a leader at the starting gate of transformation.

Jubilation was in the air shortly after the transformation effort at one telecommunications giant began. The CEO was so thrilled with the problem-plagued company’s early-stage success in confronting reality and getting people thinking and acting differently that he began to talk about it in public appearances and in interviews with Forbes and the Wall Street Journal. There’s nothing wrong with savoring little victories, but this leader also began to disengage ever so slightly from his involvement with the transformation process.
