Prologue

My move to Washington, DC, immersed me in a very different ecosystem than New York City or Atlanta – or Boston, for that matter. This small city of 70 square miles and 700,000 residents is at the center of the National Capitol Region – or DMV for DC, Maryland, and Virginia – with a total population of over 6 million people occupying 5,500 square miles.

DC has the highest average education level in the USA as well as the highest per capita income. It is home to the three branches of the federal government, the main embassies of every country represented in the USA, and a wealth of museums and monuments.
