Prologue
Microsoft was founded in 1975. VisiCalc, the first spreadsheet app, was introduced in 1979. The IBM PC was introduced in 1981, featuring Microsoft’s DOS. Microsoft Windows arrived in 1985, followed by Microsoft Office in 1988.
Apple was founded in 1976. They introduced Apple II in 1977, Apple Mac in 1984, iPod in 2001, iPhone in 2007, and iPad in 2010. In the process, they transformed from a computer company into a digital device company.
