Abstract

In most climate models bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) is regarded as a bridging technology, from the current carbon intensive energy system to a fully carbon-free energy system. The time frame used in these models usually encompasses the interval of 2020–2100. However, BECCS is a complex energy technology, and strong policy support is essential to accelerate its deployment and exploit its full potential.
