Cell Expression
Proteins and Their Characterization
Abstract
This chapter aims to consider how to interpret the structure of proteins, the product of cellular expression through typical tools used to characterize polymer structure. Both polymers and proteins can have large chain lengths, although there are differences in the variance in chain length, as proteins are typically much more narrow in their distribution. Proteins are also more complex as they are derived from a larger ensemble of amino acid monomers. Here overlapping concepts found in polymer science that overlap with protein analysis and characterization are discussed.
