We started the book with an introduction to image processing, presenting very general elements of signal theory, such as Fourier filtering or the description of image formation based on the theory of linear systems. In the last chapter, we can now go further and address the inverse process – reconstruction of an object from image data – also on a general level. In contrast to previous chapters on tomography, nuclear imaging and phase contrast radiography, we do not present specific solutions to a given reconstruction problem, but rather the general mathematical concepts of so called inverse problems.
