gaffer: The senior lighting electrician in a film or television studio.
gain: (1) A ratio of amplification or attenuation, usually expressed in decibels. (2) The measure of the reflectivity of a surface compared with a perfect matt white diffusing surface under identical conditions. (3) The measure of the performance of an aerial system compared with a simple dipole.
