Raising the details with Extrude

All our faces and edges are well defined. However, if we switch to Object Mode, the solid rendering of our window still looks like a plain rectangle:

Since all edges and faces are the same height, our model still renders as a plain rectangle

Everything is at the same height right now, so there is no real differentiation between a window pane and a shutter. The 3D model and, more importantly, the final print won't reflect those details. If I am sending this out to a Service Bureau to do full-color printing, I do have the option of keeping everything flat and using colors to illustrate those details. Techniques ...
