If you’re new at compositing, you may have the idea that this is all pretty simple: stick someone in front of a blue backdrop, click a couple of buttons, and bingo! Ming the Merciless is standing on an asteroid in space. Nothing could be further from the truth. For the most part, compositing using blue or greenscreen technology is a highly imperfect balancing act, something that can work well when all factors are just right—but that can go terribly awry if just one factor falls out of the compositor’s control. Which is just about all the time!
