Now that we’ve covered some principles of using non-motion mattes, let’s move on to the issues of creating motion mattes, or mattes that are extracted from live action footage. While there are several ways to do this, by far the most common is to use a color-based system such as the chroma key or color difference key. And by far the most common technique for using these systems is to videotape your subjects in front of an evenly lit blue or green background. So the first and most obvious step in creating the original footage is to find a large blue or green wall!
