11 The Service Discovery Protocol
A Bluetooth piconet is quite different from a traditional LAN. Rather than connecting to a network, you connect straight to another device. Connections can change quickly, and in this dynamic environment, the structuring normally provided by a network manager is missing.
In a normal LAN, you find a connection to a printer, and once found, it stays in place for months, or years. Bluetooth is designed to allow you to walk into an area and find a printer without having to preconfigure settings. When you’ve used the printer, you can walk away and forget its details.
