Talking bold and stepping into your power: With Jessica Watson

For Jessica Watson, her definition of living a bold life was not just a dream. It became a reality at a young age. Jess believes living a bold life is about challenging the status quo, not just doing the traditional things and not living what’s considered a ‘normal life’. I couldn’t think of anyone better than Jess to interview to discover how you can push through your self-doubt and really step into your dreams and make them a reality when all the odds are against you. Thank heavens there are young trailblazers like Jess who are open to sharing their story. Here’s what she had to say.

It does need to be all-consuming as you can’t do things by halves. There are both positives and negatives to living a bold life. It can be very hard on the people around you but if it’s your passion you have to give it your all.

It’s hard to put these labels on yourself, and think of yourself as a ‘bold person’, but it’s probably fair to say I am. Being bold is not about blowing your own trumpet. Bold is certainly a good thing but it’s not always perceived to be a great thing as well, especially in Australia.

There are a lot of other little things that have felt quite scary and daunting at the time, even when you feel bold. I certainly can’t go past the sailing-around-the-world-at-16 thing. And at the finish where I boldly pushed back on the prime minister as well, especially on such a public stage and platform.
