Twenty Rules

I KNOW, I KNOW. I hate rules too. Let's call them decrees instead of rules. It sounds more official that way. These 20 decrees are the core of how I run my business. They've come together after years of experience and consulting with successful brands across the world. You may not use all 20 in your business. Some of them may not be right for you. Take the ones that you resonate with and go with it.

1. Fail faster than the competition. If you're failing more often than your competition, it means you're taking action quicker than they are. In business, speed wins. Life is too short to wait for everything to be perfect.

2. Celebrate your victories. Isn't it funny how when something bad happens we spend all of our energy on it, yet when we have a success, even a tiny one, we just smile and keep moving forward? Stop putting all of your thought and energy into the failures. Celebrate every victory no matter how big or small. Reward the right behavior.

3. Make it easy for people to buy. Seriously, how hard is this? I was making an online purchase once from a site that made me fill out all of my information over the course of three different forms only to then tell me I needed to set up a username and password first. People are trying to give you money. Don't make them jump through hoops to do it.

4. Know what is working and what isn’t. Measuring and tracking things are not fun. But if you don't know what's working and what isn’t, then you keep doing this failing forward ...
