CHAPTER THREE
AS A YOUNG WOMAN, I WAS NOT A GREAT TRAVELER. I WAS happiest at home, in my furry slippers, enjoying leftovers on the couch in front of my favorite television shows. Curiosity for me often went no further than the latest must-see cable series. A stack of movies and a cozy blanket was my idea of nirvana. Even into full-blown adulthood, watching repeats of The Sopranos or Sex and the City was my idea of weekend plans.
All that changed in 2000 when Estée Lauder Companies named me chief communications officer and its legendary vice chair, Jeanette Sarkisian Wagner, became my mentor, kicking my lethargic ass in the process.
