Chapter 3

Here we’ll look at how one of the big barriers to coaching other people is our own sense of self (our ego). We’ll look at the challenge of relaxing our natural urge to retain a sense of control during a conversation, e.g. to solve the problem or know the answer. We’ll also learn how this compulsion runs much deeper than a learnt management style. By introducing the subject of the ego and how we relate to ourselves, we will touch upon questions and ideas that will help you to become more aware of your ego and the strength of influence it can have upon you in your work environment.
