THIS PROJECT TAKES ILLUMINATING A DOT-MATRIX display using POV to another level by showing you how you can generate moving messages and animations on a single dot-matrix display. The illusion of POV is explained in more detail in Chapter 15. The idea for this chapter’s project was inspired by the fortune-telling machines found at many video arcades, amusement parks, and fairs, the type that you drop a coin into and ask a question, and from which you then receive an answer to discover your destiny. For example, you might ask, “Will my girlfriend marry me?” and the machine will then give a random message to deliver your fate, such as “No way!” ...
