Mike’s first rule of change

Resistance is inevitable.

Projects create change, and change inevitably brings about resistance. Even when the change is manifestly beneficial, there is a tendency to be suspicious of the motives behind it, or to suspect that it is not what it seems. The source of our resistance is in our minds: we may be fearful of the change or of our ability to cope with it; we may know we can cope, but not want to make the effort; we may want to make the effort, but be sceptical about whether it will be worthwhile.
