Being asked to participate in a discussion of some kind is a very common activity during selection and development centre programmes. For many professions, working well with groups of people is important – for example in social work, some medical posts, and many management roles too – so discussion skills are vital.
You may not have tackled a mathematical problem for years, you may be daunted by a demanding diagram – but the chances are you will have done plenty of talking, so it is a skill you definitely already possess.
