Working with pupils who speak English as an additional language

A ccording to government statistics, English is now spoken as a second language by one in eight pupils in British schools. Many teaching assistants support these pupils either as an English speaker or as a bilingual assistant – that is, speaking to pupils in their native language in order to help them to access the curriculum.
