Legal and Ethical Issues for Media Performers
12.1 Introduction
A media performer may face a number of basic ethical dilemmas and legal decisions. For example, disc jockeys (DJs) may have to decide whether or not to play a certain song with questionable lyrics or voice-over announcers may have to decide if they can do a commercial for a product they are morally opposed to, such as fur coats or condoms. A sports reporter may be offered free tickets to professional or college sports events. The FCC requires all stations to identify themselves in a particular way and a DJ is required to follow the legal guidelines for station identification.
