1.6 TCP/IP Networking

 

1.6.1 Introduction

 

The merging of the broadcast, telco and computer industries has brought a lot of new technologies into broadcast systems. This chapter looks at the key aspects of the Internet Protocol (IP) and Ethernet that are used extensively in broadcast control systems and applications.

The intention is to provide a practical understanding of the key concepts of working with and networking IP hosts, but does not explore the concepts needed to build an associated LAN or WAN infrastructure.

This chapter concentrates on IP over Ethernet as the networking method, as today this is the de facto standard for interconnecting hosts.
