2.15 Interactive TV

 

 

2.15.1 Introduction

‘Interactive TV’ can mean a variety of things to each broadcaster, and for the engineers covers a wide range of technologies. There are two main categories of service when interacting with the TV:

• Enhanced TV, where streams of information are ancillary to the programme and the selection is made in the TV or Set-Top Box (STB).

• Interactive TV, where additional information is provided and can be selected in the TV or STB but may engage on a oneto-one basis with that viewer. This implies a back channel from the TV or STB to a central server.
