6.9.1.1 Generation, transmission and distribution

The generation, transmission and distribution of electrical energy is undertaken internationally at different voltage levels, but a typical system is illustrated in Figure 6.9.1.

From the primary substations the high voltage system, usu- ally between 10 and 13 kV, distributes electricity to the majority of larger consumer loads and also to the urban and rural secondary substations.
