32     Pushing back the frontiers

‘The Dalai Lama drew his maroon and yellow robes around him and hastened over to a laptop computer we’d set up on a table. We were at his headquarters in exile at the foothills of the Himalayas in Northern India. We’d just been live on BBC News Online. This was as novel an experience for me as it was for him. People had emailed questions from around the world. I put a selection to the Dalai Lama and, thanks to equipment we’d been pioneering in India, he could then be heard and seen answering them.
