Scattered Flowers

• Stretched canvas, size 11" × 14"

• Flat bristle brush, size 16 or 18 (about 11/2" wide)

• Flat bristle brush, size 4 or 6

• Palette knife

• Zinc white

• Black

• Transparent brown iron oxide

• Cadmium red light hue

• Pyrrole red or alizarin crimson

• Ultramarine blue

• Cerulean blue hue

• Viridian green

• Cadmium yellow medium hue

STEP ONE

Using the larger bristle brush, apply the brown underpainting in long, broad, vertical brushstrokes. Completely cover the surface of the canvas. Let dry.
