Because the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) should already have in-depth knowledge of IP addressing, this section is merely a brief refresher course. An IP address is divided into three sections. The first part represents the network address, the second part represents the subnet address (if applicable), and the third part is the actual host address on the major network or subnetwork.
