25.7. Individual Assessment (Comp-XM)
Universities and corporations around the world are under increasing pressure from stakeholders to measure student learning and assess manager competency. While the Capstone experience itself is an excellent laboratory where students can be encouraged to take risks when necessary to further the learning process, it is not an ideal standalone program for individual competency assessment. For that reason, the makers of Capstone have created an optional program extender—Comp-XM.
Comp-XM is an acronym for competency examination. The program tests the examinee's understanding of business concepts and theory and his or her ability to apply that knowledge in a practical context.
Comp-XM consists of two primary components:
Managing a Company. This component represents the practical application of knowledge. Participants use the experience gained during the team -based Capstone exercise to manage their own simulated firm, individually, for four simulated years, against three computerized competitor companies, each executing a different strategy.
