Use SMTP to Send an Email

Sending an email with Lita looks a lot like sending a text message. However, instead of Twilio, you’ll use Ruby’s built-in mail gem to send messages through an SMTP server; A personal Gmail account using the Google SMTP servers will suffice.

Using Gmail with Your Bot

Gmail is an easy-to-implement example. However, it’s not necessarily the most secure nor the highest-throughput solution. If you plan to use Gmail, take steps to protect your private email before you take this skill live. One option is to create a separate Gmail account. Another option is to use a more production-oriented email service like Postmark or Sendgrid.
