CHAPTER 9Picking Up Free Local OTA Stations

Prior to the changeover to digital television in the United States, over the air (OTA) television stations were broadcast using an analog radio wave signal. Analog simply means that the underlying data such as the sound you heard or the motion pictures you watched were sent though the airwaves by one of two methods: either the frequency of the signal was modulated or the strength of the signal was modulated to carry the data that made up the sound or the picture.
