Introduction
This chapter builds the case for considering leadership as an influencing process which is heavily dependent on the mindset that the potential leader develops. We borrow from the work of Carol Dweck (2012) who has pioneered research into the role and influence that mindset plays in learning and development. We extend the conceptual models that she develops in relation to learning to the subject of leadership, especially conscious leadership and its effects. The basic premise of Dweck’s work is that human beings have a choice in relation to mindset in that they may choose a fixed or growth mindset.
