Introduction

Leadership is a hugely contested area within organisational science. The literature has an abundant range of leadership models and theories (Sveningsson and Larsson, 2006). This chapter concentrates on developing an understanding of leadership as a meta-model that stands above and, thus, influences all of its subordinate derivative leadership models. What is required is a clear definition of leadership as a meta-model that all other leadership models and theories are derivatives of. This chapter also explores what leadership is not as well as what it is.
