Leadership is not easy. Leadership as a social and cultural process is a complex affair fraught with many different challenges. Our book has not set out to make the act of leadership appear easy or to oversimplify the subject. What we have aimed to do is to present a set of ideas and methods that, with a little effort, can be understood and put into practice by anyone who is expected to fulfil a leadership function. The ideas and methods we have surveyed throughout this book simply need two critical qualities for the practitioner, that is: (1) to be prepared to adopt an open perspective; and (2) to engage in reflexivity.
