Noted Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung said, “You are what you do, not what you say you’ll do.” In the organizational context, employees expect the organization and its leadership to do what they say. Culturally, “what you do” is referred to as enacted values. Espoused values are “what you say you will do” (Venema, 2021). When the two are the same, the culture thrives.
