11. Turning waste into a resource
In a circular economy, waste becomes a resource. Current demolition practices are driven by the pressure to tear down old buildings quickly and safely, and the lack of demand for reused components means that the majority of materials are downcycled By designing buildings for disassembly and deconstruction, the residual value of an obsolete building can become positive and there is more incentive to reclaim components and materials.
