So far we’ve talked mostly about simple content sites. Simple is a relative term—content sites can get quite complex. The web, including the mobile web, is expected to do a lot more than just display content. Users expect mobile web apps to work as well as their desktop counterparts. Web developers have struggled in this department. The popularity of native apps is no doubt related to the often less-than-stellar performance of the mobile web, and I’ll concede that it can be quite difficult to get seriously underpowered mobile devices to deliver a good experience.
