Defining a catalog

The catalog definition is based on various different factors. Its content should be easily guessed by its name. Also, the content should be sharing characteristics, which will enable to easily identify it as part of a distinct service catalog.

Here are a few examples of service catalogs and their possible contained service:

IaaS: Normally this is a catalog providing only OS installs with no further software installation or other customization. This catalog may offer a quick way to deploy an OS (with IP, domain join, security hardening, and so on) but nothing more than that.

Typical services are:

  • Windows (different versions)
  • Linux (different versions)
  • Bare metal resources (install Windows/Linux on a blade or rack server).
