Al Egan was born in Sioux City, Iowa, in the early 1940s and was raised as a typical middle-class midwesterner. He went to Morningside Junior College, served in the Marines, and did a tour of duty in the Korean conflict. After he completed his military service, good fortune came his way as he met and married the daughter of an entrepreneur.
