The nature of what I do – holding huge motivational events on an international scale, and maintaining an extensive online profile – means that I get many people approaching me asking me to mentor them. I will consider mentoring anyone, but I only have a finite amount of time so it's important I make careful choices. I am very fortunate to have been able to mentor some incredibly motivated and passionate people, and I'm excited to be able to share some of my favourite success stories with you.
My skill is helping people to grow their businesses and encouraging them to seek financial empowerment. Often people don't understand business and entrepreneurship or the opportunities that are available to them these days until I enlighten them. People don't generally come to me looking to start a business; they come to me looking to change their lives and I show them how starting a business can help them do that. I create a bridge between them wanting to start a new life and them actually doing it. I facilitate that journey and show them the way.
I can only work with people who have decided to put the work in, who are ready to start immediately. They have to be committed, feel more than simply a desire to do something; they have to be ready to go for it. I always say there is a difference between an entrepreneur and a wantrepreneur (see Figure 13.1). An entrepreneur has an idea and a month later has a business.
