Introduction

When the key stakeholders in the organization have agreed to pursue a business intelligence (BI), reporting, and analytics strategy, it is difficult to resist the urge to immediately begin evaluating tools for the purposes of acquisition and deployment. The process of acquiring BI tools acquisition is well-defined, with clearly-defined goals, tasks, and measurable outcomes. The problem, though, is that while a successful acquisition process gives the appearance of progress, when you are done, all you have is a set of tools.
