Who Are You?
When Andrea Wellman was laid off her commercial photography job, she tried to avoid panicking. She didn't rush to the nearest temporary help agency, apply for customer service positions on craigslist, or hit up family for quick cash.
Instead, she filled her suddenly empty schedule with appointments she' d missed while working: appointments with herself.
Andrea admits the temptation to grab a part-time job “just to bring in some money” was strong. Fortunately, her need for personal reflection — and a new personal business model — won out. “Until I lost my job,” she says, “I' d been operating on autopilot. I thought this might be my best opportunity to find how to regain some control over my career.”
Andrea' s crazy about two things: dogs and running. Born in the shadow of a Saint Bernard, she' s never been without a canine friend. And although she took up running later, she loves a good five-miler — or a good marathon — as much as she loves her pets. In fact, a few months before she was laid off from her photography job, Andrea had combined her two passions: She' d started running her puppy, Molly. Occasionally, she' d pick up a friend' s dog too, and the three would trot through the friendly Seattle streets.
