Do Not Let Your Fear Conquer You—Press On

Let me be clear that I am not telling you that pressing on when the path is unknown is easy. I am simply telling you that it is necessary to being successful in business and life, even when it is scary. So how do we eliminate our fear?

The answer is that we do not.

Like Moses and the Israelites, you must step into the ocean before it is split, but do you think they were not scared to walk into the water up to their necks? Of course they were scared! But they did it anyway.

No one said that following these biblical secrets will make any of this easier or less scary. But no one promised you an easy life, either. There is no reason to believe that life need not be scary. Every person who has ever lived has experienced fear. That does not mean we cannot overcome our fear. The dirty little secret of true heroes is that they do not overcome fear by eliminating it. They overcome their fear by learning to cope with it. Courage does not come from eliminating fear; it comes from the ability to act and plow ahead in the face of fear.

Consider the job of a fireman. Do you think a fireman ever overcomes the fear of stepping into a burning house? Not if he has any survival sense! Stepping into a burning house is and should be scary! A courageous firefighter understands the danger but is able to do what must be done in the face of his own fear.
