You Can Ruin Today by Planning Bad Things for Tomorrow

Nothing throws the brakes on success like worrying about the future. You might be going about your day, meeting all of your obligations with aplomb, diligently serving other people and God, doing everything right, and you feel great, when suddenly this niggling feeling about tomorrow descends over you. This kind of nagging worry is a terrible form of spiritual gravity because it is so pernicious. Everything may not fall apart at once, but we can feel ourselves slowly coming apart at the seams. We start planning and fretting over what must be done the next day, or the next week, and we worry about what the following year holds, and suddenly we are not living fully in the present. Worry about the future is troubling for humans. Bad thoughts about tomorrow can infect our spirits and performance today in noticeable and measurable ways.

The end result of your life is a direct result of what came before. You do not get to the end of anything without having come from the beginning and having traveled along the way. If we find that we have ended up somewhere bad, we can assume that we got there by traveling the wrong path. We didn't just have a “bad ending,” we also got off to a bad start or, at the very least, took a wrong turn somewhere along the way.
