UNIT V

NONPARAMETRIC STATISTICS AND QUALITY

This fifth and final unit of the text includes Chapters 16, 17, and 18. Chapter 16, Analysis of Categorical Data, presents two well-known chi-square techniques for analyzing frequency data that have been organized into nominal or ordinal categories—the chi-square goodness-of-fit test and the chi-square test of independence. Chapter 17, Nonparametric Statistics, contains some of the better-known nonparametric statistics for analyzing nominal and ordinal data. These techniques include the runs test, the Mann-Whitney U test, the Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed rank test, the Kruskal-Wallis test, the Friedman test, and Spearman's rank correlation. In Chapter 18, Statistical Quality Control, we learn about the concept of quality as it is viewed in the business world and how statistics can be used in continuous quality improvement.
