Abstract:

The various institutions that surround organizations – the organizational environment in which firms are embedded – shape the actions of firms in a number of subtle but substantive ways. Given the influence of the environmental context on firm behaviour, any choice of strategy or corporate governance that a firm makes is inevitably affected by the constraints of its institutional environment.
