Dynamische Speicherplatzverwaltung
Bei der Entwicklung eines Programms ist oft nicht bekannt, wie viele Daten zu verarbeiten sind. Daher ist es notwendig, Speicher dynamisch, d.h. zur Laufzeit des Programms, zu reservieren und wieder freizugeben. Der Speicher kann so flexibel dem aktuellen Bedarf angepasst werden, z.B. zur Darstellung dynamischer Datenstrukturen wie »verkettete Listen«. Die Standardbibliothek stellt dafür vier Funktionen bereit, die in der Header-Datei stdlib.h deklariert sind.
