Chapter 9. Wall Plates
In Chapter 5, "Cabling System Components," you learned about the basic components of a structured cabling system. One of the most visible of these components is the wall plate (also called a workstation outlet or station outlet because it is usually placed near a workstation). As its name suggests, a wall plate is a flat plastic or metal plate that usually mounts in or on a wall (although some "wall" plates actually are mounted in floors, office cubicles, and ceilings). Wall plates include one or more jacks. A jack is the connector outlet in the wall plate that allows a workstation to make a physical and electrical connection to the network cabling system.
