Chapter 11
Integration with Partial Fractions
IN THIS CHAPTER
Breaking fractions into the sum of two or more partial fractions
Extending partial fractions to rational expressions
Using partial fractions to integrate rational expressions that have distinct linear factors
Integrating with partial fractions for rational expressions that have repeated linear factors
Persevering while integrating rational expressions that have distinct quadratic factors
Setting up difficult partial sums that have repeated quadratic factors
No Calculus II class would be complete without a unit on partial fractions. Well, actually, you might get lucky: Some calculus teachers opt out of this particular form of torture, preferring to focus on a greater variety of applications of integrals (see Chapters 12 and 13). Either way, you’re still going to be doing a lot of integration for the foreseeable future.
