Great Hope II. All Together Now!
The global financial and economic crisis that was triggered in 2007 threw us far off the cohesive and collaborative course the global community had set for ourselves in 2000. Would we have achieved all the MDGs, or performed better, if this calamity hadn’t occurred? It’s hard to say, given how much the economic maps have also changed, along with the transformations of demographic balance, funding methods, and the major players in development. As we will see in this chapter, 2015 was an exceptional year, as hopefully the history books will show, and it provided humanity a unique opportunity to bring back to the table essential issues we had lost sight of during years of discord and shock.
